Public Safety Officer
Primary responsibilities include airport operations-daily field checks, grounds patrols, assisting the public, maintaining the security identification/access control system, assisting with snow removal operations (driving large, manual transmission snow removal equipment) incurring significant overtime hours; maintaining OSHA compliance; escorting in/out airport secure areas, etc. In addition, the Airport Public Safety Officer performs both law enforcement officer (LEO) & aircraft rescue & firefighting (ARFF) functions. LEO certification obtained by completing Basic Police Academy (attendance sponsored by Airport Authority), ARFF certification obtained through in-house training/tests. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age; a high school graduate or equivalent; and have at least one semester of college class’ or equivalent (special training, military, etc.), be a U.S. citizen; have no criminal background; possess or able to obtain Virginia Operator’s License; & have a driving history with no significant traffic violations & satisfactory for insurance purposes.
Requires excellent physical condition to be able to run, carry heavy ARFF equipment, hoses or persons while in fire protective clothing; requires significant bending, stooping, climbing stairs, standing/walking for long periods of time; exposure to weather; exposure to loud noise due to aircraft/vehicle operations.
Salary range: $30,000 - $36,000.
