Plan Accordingly for an On-Time Arrival

It is now more important than ever for passengers to arrive at CHO at least an hour and a half in advance of their scheduled departure. The Transportation Security Administration has implemented a new screening procedure for checked bags that is designed to enhance security, but may take longer to process baggage. Passengers arriving late may risk missing their flight if there is not enough time to process their luggage. It is recommended that passengers allow adequate time for check in, baggage inspection, and the checkpoint processing. Airlines advise that passengers should arrive at the gate area at least 30 minutes before boarding. Although the check in procedure at CHO is usually short, there are times during the day that lines may occur.

Hello,
I have to take the plane on a saturday in April. My plane is for Washington and departs at 2h40pm but I can not leave the campus of Virginia University before 12h30pm. I plan on taking a cab. Do you think it is realistic to book such a plane or will it be too short to catch that plane? Thanks for your help

Jennifer: It should take you about 20-30 minutes to get to CHO from UVA depending on traffic. You should have plenty of time to make your flight. Just make sure you have everything in order and your bags are packed as suggested on the TSA website.(http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/screening_experience.shtm)
- Hope this helps!

I am looking at a 6:30 a.m. flight.  Will a flight this early also need a 1.5 hours?  This woul dmean I have to leave my home around 4 a.m. which is not an appealing option.

Patricia: Early morning is our busiest time of the day.  Given that the processes for getting you through check-in might be more crowded than at other times during the day, it is recommended that you arrive a full 1.5 hours before your departure. We wouldn’t want you to feel rushed at the last minute and/or risk missing your flight.  Thanks!

I have a flight scheduled for departure to charlotte @ 5:35 AM. My final destination is mexico city. Do I need to arrive earlier (3 hours I have heard) since my final destination is international or should I just do the 1.5 hours earlier to ensure I have time to pass screening and board?

Neil: Flying international will not affect your processing time at CHO. keep in mind that you will be traveling during a busier part of the day, so I suggest following your rule of being here 1.5 hours early.
